Enjoy a sunset picnic followed by a captivating space journey led by an astronomer on World Heritage listed Lord Howe Island.

Our Sunset Dinner Grazing and Stargazing includes:

A styled group picnic set up at one of Lord Howe's most spectacular outdoor locations, including low picnic tables, cushions, rugs, beautiful crockery, cutlery, napkins and glassware.

A deluxe antipasto grazing platter including fine cheeses, homemade dips, speciality crackers, fresh seasonal fruit and other yummy treats. As a guide, the contents of our Regular Grazing Platter would be served for two guests. There is more than enough food for dinner!

Mark Iscaro, the original 'AstroPuNK' as your Your Astronomer and guide for the evening.

His stargazing experience will include:

Observation of celestial objects through the use of binoculars, a laser pointer and astronomical telescope. Depending on the night, potential sightings include:

- The Moon with its craters and seas
- Jupiter and its Galilean moons
- The captivating Orion Nebula
- Dazzling star clusters
- Double and triple star systems
- Satellites and the International Space Station (ISS)
- Deep space wonders like galaxies and the brilliant Milky Way
- And if luck is on your side, shooting stars!

Should the time and weather permit, you’ll also have the opportunity to attempt some astrophotography of the brightest objects viewed through our astronomical telescope - all you need your smart phone!

Mark Iscaro, the AstroPuNk, is a dedicated volunteer in astronomy, supporting community outreach programs that bring the wonders of space to the public. With a punk ethos of rebellion, independence, and challenging the norm, he assists with stargazing events, educational initiatives, and public astronomy gatherings. His use of humour and creativity makes space exploration feel accessible, creating a relaxed atmosphere where people can learn about the cosmos without feeling intimidated. By embracing the DIY spirit, he encourages curiosity and participation, making the universe open to everyone, regardless of experience or background.

Our Summer Stargazing Reviews

"A magnificent night!"

This stargazing and grazing night all in one was amazing! Great and relaxing time my partner and I both loved it!! We had a nice relaxing time eating and having a drink then got to see Jupiter and the moon. I was so amazed at how the planets looked and had really well taught astronomer who knew a lot about the stars, planets and more. I would highly recommend going to the sunset grazing star gazing evening was well worth the price and I'll never forget how beautiful the night was.

"A wonderful evening at Neds Beach"

We went to the Sunset Grazing and Stargazing night in February 2024 - starting with a lavish arrangement of a low table with of mountain of cushions on a sea-grass mat, on the grassy slopes overlooking the beautiful Ned's Beach and Admiralty Islands. We bought an excellent bottle of wine and were then presented with a huge platter (included in the fee) with a fabulous savoury array of cheeses, dips, crackers, fruit etc - more than two hungry people could eat! As the sun dipped into the ocean, we were met by our astronomer who, with her super telescope guided us through the starry night, with clear views of Jupiter, Orion and many others. It was a fabulous night and would highly recommend it, I hope they keep running this!
